Andersen, Mack help Charlotte upend Xavier

NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

02/19/2009 - Charlotte, NC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ian Andersen posted a game-high 16 points and Lamont Mack scored all of his 12 points over the final eight minutes, including a three-pointer that helped seal the game with 35 seconds left, as Charlotte dealt 16th-ranked Xavier a 65-60 defeat at Halton Arena.

Andersen's five field goals all came from beyond the arc, and he also had six rebounds for Charlotte. An'Juan Wilderness logged 15 points and brought down six boards for the 49ers (10-15, 4-7 A-10), who own a two-game win streak.

DiJuan Harris added a game-high 10 assists and scored seven in Charlotte's first win in seven attempts versus Xavier.

C.J. Anderson led Xavier with 13 points and seven rebounds for the Musketeers (21-5, 9-3), who cruised through their conference slate until back-to- back A-10 losses at Duquesne and Dayton in early February. Xavier has now lost three of four overall, slipping to second in the conference behind Dayton (9-2), which plays Saturday at Saint Louis.

Derrick Brown and B.J. Raymond had nine points apiece in the loss.

Charlotte went ahead at halftime, 29-27, after Harris' jumper and a three- pointer from Javarris Barnett closed out the opening 20 minutes.

The teams continued to trade baskets over the early stages of the second half before a RaShad Coleman layup and subsequent three-ball from Andersen supplied a 44-41 Charlotte lead midway through.

After a Kenny Frease layup and Dante Jackson three-pointer put Xavier back in front, a three-point play by Harris gave the 49ers a 47-46 edge. Mack then scored nine straight Charlotte points, as the hosts took a 56-53 lead with four minutes to go.

An Andersen three-pointer a short time later pushed the lead to four before Anderson's driving layup pulled the Musketeers back within one, 59-58, with 52.5 on the clock.

Mack, though, drilled a three-pointer that provided a two-possession game with only 35 seconds to go.

Brown took a feed from Anderson in close and banked home a bucket, but an ensuing trip to the line for Wilderness wiped out the points and kept it a four-point game, 64-60.

Terrell Holloway couldn't get a desperation drive to fall for Xavier in the waning seconds as Charlotte held on for the win.

Game Notes

Xavier won, 69-47, in the January 28 meeting between the teams, in Cincinnati...The Musketeers shot 41.5 percent from the floor and hit just 4- of-15 three-point attempts while Charlotte made 42 percent of its shots and 8- of-19 attempts from beyond the arc.

It's less than a month until the NHL hockey betting season opens at MySportsbook.com and preparations are underway for another battle in the race to hoist Lord Stanley's mug in 2007.

As cup crazy fans prepare to place their bets, one online sportsbook ,MySportsbook.com, is offering hockey betting lines on the 2007/2007 Stanley Cup , who will bring it home this upcoming season.

Despite a poor showing in last season's playoffs and the loss of Steve Yzerman to retirement, the Detroit Red Wings are early favourites at this online sportsbook with wagering odds of 6-1. The Wings will look to offensive powerhouse Pavel Datsyuk and newly appointed captain Nicklas Lidstrom to lead one of the league's most prominent franchises.

Always a threat are the Ottawa Senators, with newly acquired goaltender Martin Gerber from the Stanley Cup champion ,Carolina Hurricanes. The Sens are second best in the rankings at a 7-1 bet, and odds makers at this sportsbook are optimistic that the Ottawa squad will fare better than last season's Eastern Conference semi-final upset to the Buffalo Sabres.

Also worth noting are the defending Stanley Cup champs Carolina Hurricanes, a 10-1 bet to repeat. Behind the Canes are the New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, and Anaheim Mighty Ducks all sit at 12-1.
